What is conservation of forest?

Conservation of forest is a process of planning and maintenance of forests. It also involves natural resources such as water, soil, air, wild life etc. This process helps for a better benefits and sustainability for future generation.

Why is conservation of forests necessary?
  • It is important because forests are the major sources of animals, animal products. Forests regulate the earth’s temperature and enhance the rainfall.
  • Trees absorb carbon dioxide and leave oxygen. Oxygen in turn is consumed by living beings.
  • Forests are home to most of the world's species. During times heavy rainfall lowland forests such as those in floodplains help to absorb water and slow flood flows, preventing damage to soil, property and buildings
What are the measures to be taken?

Planned cutting of trees: It means whoever wants to cut the tree; they should take a written permission from the concerned Government official.

Planting more trees: To maintain the ecosystem and sustain the resources for future generation.

Soil conservation: Trees of the forests hold soil tightly. When soil is protected it helps plants create more nutrients our bodies need, like protein.

Forest Fire should be prevented: Huge forests areas are destroyed by fire every year. Fire may cause due to carelessness of the people or by natural methods.

Cutting the trees without permission shall be punishable to stop cutting unplanned trees

Chipko Movement ---Save Trees-- movement

There are a few people like Amrita Devi (Beniwal), who has realised the importance of forests and sacrificed her life along with her three daughters in year 1730 to save green trees being felled by the Maharaja of Jodhpur at a place known as Khejarli in Marwar, Rajasthan. Along with her more than 363 other Bishnois, died saving the Khejri trees.

Summary: Forests are valuable asset as well as a great source of natural resources. Therefore everyone’s contribution towards the conservation of forests is important.
